Supporting Smart Applications in Multihop Ad-Hoc Networks

چکیده
The goal of the GecGo middleware is to provide all the services required by self-organizing distributed applications running on multihop ad-hoc networks. Because of the frequent as well as unreliable and anonymous communication between accidental neighbors observed in these networks, applications have to adapt continuously to changes in the mobile environment and the middleware offers the required tight coupling. Additionally, GecGo addresses specifically the issue of en passant communication, where moving device may interact only for short periods of time. In this paper, the architecture and basic concepts of the GecGo middleware are discussed and a prototype implementation of GecGo using the Microsoft Windows CE 4.2 .NET operating system for mobile devices and the .NET Compact Framework is presented. The paper also addresses issues on application programming and example application prototypes for these mobile networks.

Multiple Access Protocols with Smart Antennas in Multihop Ad Hoc Rural-Area Networks
Multihop ad hoc networking is a very appealing technology for the deployment of wireless data networks. It eliminates the need for network planning and the reliance on fixed infrastructure. Multihop ad hoc networks are designed with a self-configuring capability and are able to adapt to the addition or removal of network radio units (nodes). This capability makes them simple to install, allowin...

متن کاملAdaptive per hop differentiation for end-to-end delay assurance in multihop wireless networks
As the rapid growth of smart hand-held devices, multihop wireless access networks have a lot of potential applications in a variety of fields in civilian and military environments. Many of these applications, such as realtime audio/video streaming, will require some form of end-to-end QoS assurance. In this paper we present an adaptive per hop differentiation (APHD) scheme towards achieving end...
متن کاملUsability of Legacy p2p Multicast in Multihop Ad Hoc Networks: An Experimental Study
There has recently been an increasing interest in convergence of p2p and ad hoc network research. Actually, p2p systems and multihop ad hoc networks share similar features, such as self-organisation, decentralisation, self-healing, and so forth. It is thus interesting to understand if p2p systems designed for the wired Internet are suitable also for ad hoc networks and, if they are not, in whic...

Disastrous events are one of the most challenging applications of multihop ad hoc networks due to possible damages of existing telecommunication infrastructure. The deployed cellular communication infrastructure might be partially or completely destroyed after a natural disaster. Multihop ad hoc communication is an interesting alternative to deal with the lack of communications in disaster scena...
